Located in the rural community of Goodrich, Michigan (approximately 50 miles north of Detroit), Burkland is a "World-Class" producer of fineblanked components for the automotive, heavy truck, agricultural, construction and consumer products markets. Burkland excels in the delivery of products that have strict requirements for flatness, perpendicularity, edge quality and dimensional accuracy with minimal post machining, especially in thicker stampings.

What is Fineblanking?

Fineblanking is the process of combining cold extrusion & stamping technologies which reduce product cost through the elimination or reduction of finishing operations.
Fineblanking is used when rigid tolerances of edge quality, flatness and perpendicularity are required.
Fineblanking is most practical for thicker steel (.040 to .750")
Fineblanking is a process that provides parts with smooth edges and high accuracy. Because of the stability of the process many secondary operations can be eliminated. These include:

Grinding
Milling
Broaching
Reaming
Gear Hobbing
Forming
Shaving
Leveling

Fineblanking competes against Powdered Metal (Sintered Metal process), Castings and Forgings. These 3 competitive technologies require additional machining for the finished product to be complete. Fineblanking eliminates most of that additional machining which translates to cost savings.
